Teacher of the Year

Tomorrow night, I will be attending a formal ceremony called "A Salute to Teachers".  It's San Diego County Office of Education's version of the "teacher Oscars", so to speak. Saluteheader_4

As a district Teacher of the Year, I am one of about 40 teachers nominated for San Diego County Teacher of the Year, which could potentially lead to California Teacher of the Year and National Teacher of the Year.  The experience has been quite a trip, frankly.  And as someone who loves attention and thrives on being a social butterfly, I keep wondering why I have had such a hard time embracing the recognition as  being a teacher of distinction among the 20,000 or so teacher in the county.

Balancing a teaching career and family

I had such a blast last week hanging out with Naomi Randolph, Scholastic.com Kindergarten Teacher Advisor while she was visiting my hometown of San Diego! 

Naomi is a hard working teacher and an expectant mom.  Knowing that I have two little ones at home, myself, she asked me over dinner one night how I balance my busy teaching career,  motherhood, and marriage.  I thought, "Whoaaaaaa!  Where do I begin?"
