Stand Up to Bullying

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. For Safe Schools Week, which is October 17-21, the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps kicks off a continuing series about bullying prevention, Stand Up to Bullying.

Kid Reporters have talked to their teachers, parents of kids who have been bullied, singers, songwriters, and actors who are taking part in bullying prevention programs, and authors about how to keep bullying out of kids' lives.

Have you been the victim of bullying? Do you see it happening in your schools? How do you stand up to bullies?

Tell us your story, and share your experiences and ideas with other kids in the comments section below!

I have had many experiences with bullying too. Now that I entered middle school, bullying gets worse. The eighth graders bully all the six graders like me. But I have quite a few friends in seventh grade that I can go to if I have trouble. After reading the articles, I think it will help me learn to stand up for myself. I am the kind of person who stands up for others, but I can't stand up for myself. The articles were really helpful!

I wear glasses. I skipped a grade. I am still pretty smart. One day, I went to school and somebody called me "nerd" many times. I felt hurt on the inside but I decided to ignore him and forgive him. After he realized he didn't get any negative reaction from me, he stopped.

Well... there was one bullying that happened at this school. A girl kept on making fun of the new girl. One recess, she even pushed her off the swings of our playground. No one saw except me. I went to the girl and told her to tell on her. She said no, but if that she needed my helo she would say. Soon, she came to me to ask me to help her out. I got a couple of the people who have seen the girl get bullied, and I told the teacher with them. now, it doesn't happen. There actually good friends.

i got bulled when i had to were a wig becuase i got my head shaved i got bullied alot and i just wont every bully to stop it is relly mean and when it happens to you u will get bullied

It is not fair because the bully's mom doesn't know about it.But if someone gets bulled. The other person that sees it can help. Even if they aren't friends. They should help . Because if you or a other person doesn't help. You should blame yourself. But it is just not fair at all.I know a friend that got jumped by 6 or 8 people while they was walking with his friends. But he fought them. Also another thing if teachers tell their parents that they got bulled . How would the teachers know. The only reason they would know is if they were watching the person get bullied and don't say anything. The teachers don't care. I guess . Cause they don't even help the person that's bulled.Next is the crossing guards they just talk to people. Also stop cars and, stop people. They don't really do nothing. So it's not fair to be bulled. We need stop it and start reporting it to the superintendent or the principal. Or somebody to stop it.

sometimes this girl gives me the look. It is not fair she get to pick if you lame in her book or she can used you. This girl is the teachers pet so if she didn't turn in her homework she is fine ,but if i didn't turn in my homework a call to my mom a zero in the grade book and everyone can't talk to me. All of my friends try to be her friend so they don't be her enemy.what bugs me the most is that when someone trieds to tell the teacher that the girl just called someone a bad name the teacher bames us they say we were tally tellying one her it is not fair. someone has to do something about this

In first grade, my brother and I went to school together. There was this mean bully named Rashawn. He bullied me for my glasses, he bullied my brother and I because one of our grandparents deceased,& spit in my hair. Then, I decided to take a stand against bullying and told an adult. Now, whenever I see someone being bullied, I go up to the bully and confront him. Some people are bullied because the bullies see something special in you.

for me its been hard..... im a junior at escondido high school and all i have to say is that i no wat u have gone through and its devisateing :( i =ve been bullyied since i was just in 4th grade i always thought it was a faze but it wasnt when i went in to middle school that was the even worse i dont like speaking lound in class and when i talk people just whisper and say who is she shes in our class ?? and it hurts :\\ now in in high school amd i changed i wear make up and hang out with peolpe that bring out the best in me i over comr=ed the bullying and i have helped others :) dont let no one bring u down there are many ways to defend ur self

We always hear the bully victim's side of the story. I think it's time we hear a bully's point of view. I was a big bully in middle school. I never used to be mean but everything changed in middle school. I bullied people because I didn't feel good about myself. I was horribly bullied in grammar school.AFter 8th grade I made a sincere apology to those I bullied and became close friends with most of them. Im not saying bullying is ok, but please understand that a lot of times we dont want to be like that and we regret it. We hurt too and bully the ones we wishwe could be. SO if youre being bullied dont let it get to you

what??????????? what is this? is this scholatic news? my child need to get on

i got bullied alot. only it was 3-4 people mostly.but we have power to speak out.

I always get picked on and I am in 5th grade.People are always calling me fat. I really don' t like that. Lots of people stand up for me. But it seems to not help. There is this one boy who every time he picked on you he will say hey. But the only reason he does this is because he lost his mother. But when there is no one around to stand up for me I ignore it. My grandad told me to ignore people like that because there jealous.

i know how it is ive seen it
