Elf Magic Takes Me Back

S1053980 Elf Magic
I was recently brought back in time—not too long ago—when my own fourth-graders brought elves into my classroom, when I was sent an Elf Magic Elf and some snow in a container. In my case, it had nothing to do with a holiday. One day there was one elf doll and the next day another. Before too long there were more elves, so there had to be elf rules—mostly for the elves. It turns out that elves can be pretty mischievous. Someone, and I refuse to say who—would move the elves slightly, or place some sort of rewards on the desks with tiny notes—written by elves—of course, when students were at specials. A few creative students thought designing an elf trap would be a good idea, but a very passionate elf’s rights committee talked them out of it. It makes me smile today, typing on a train to NYC, thinking back to those students, who are most likely raising there own kids—and quite possibly looking for elves.
