Think Global, Think Technology
Thinking about global awareness and technology at the same time makes sense to me. Technology makes teaching about global awareness so much easier. There are a plethora of resources online. Here are a few of my favorites.
One of my favorite global resources is Scholastic's Global Trek. Not only do the students learn about other countries and their people, but they are able to keep a travel journal about their learning.
Have you checked out Scholastic's resources for teaching about celebrating the winter holidays? There are wonderful ideas for teaching about holidays around the world, religious celebrations, national holidays, New Year celebrations and Harvest Festivals? There are scrapbooks of how kids around the world celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. The resources include teacher guides, clip art, images and printable activities and crafts.
Rethink. Global Awareness is a large collection of global awareness lessons on the Apple Learning Interchange. This is a great resource for technology integrated lessons of all kinds and for all grade levels.
Geared for young children, Panwapa is an amazing site for promoting global awareness. Even older students enjoy the Panwapa characters and stories.
If you want to connect with other teachers around the world, consider joining The Global Education Collaborative. You can collaborate on projects, have conversations and add media.
