While HP, Acer and Samsung have jumped into the Chromebook market with a variety of inexpensive school-ready notebooks, Dell has watched and waited. The wait is almost over because Dell’s Chromebook 11 will be out in the new year. Built around an 11.6-inch screen, it is the first Chromebook to use Intel’s new Celeron 2955U processor that runs at 1.4GHz. The base model includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space as well as access to Dell’s Wyse PocketCloud online storage and collaboration service; there’s also a 4GB version. All told, it adds up to a 2.9-pound system that should easily fit into a child’s backpack or a school desk. Dell says that the systems will sell for under $300.
